Roi Launches New Era R01 with Alter Ego and Debut Single

Roi is opening a bold new creative chapter: he has announced R01, his new conceptual project, and released Perfecto Desastre, the first single of this era. Under this new artistic identity—following the recent simplification of his stage name from Roi Méndez to simply Roi—the artist explores a personal universe where emotion and visual storytelling coexist with a more energetic, contemporary pop-rock sound. The goal is clear: to connect with audiences in a more honest and intimate way, sharing the small battles of everyday life with transparency and attitude.

At the heart of the R01 project is his alter ego in the form of a figurine, an evolving avatar that will change with each release. Each song will be presented as a unique “collector’s edition” of this figure: new features, new nuances, new emotions. The first iteration appears on the cover of the debut single Perfecto Desastre, bridging music, aesthetics, and the storytelling that will define the project.

Musically, Perfecto Desastre marks R01’s turn toward guitar- and synth-driven pop, blending influences from The 1975, Bryan Adams, and Wallows into a luminous production that balances emotion and energy. Lyrically, the song is an honest exploration of post-breakup chaos—when everything is simultaneously right and wrong, and “imperfection” reveals what is most real. In the artist’s own words, it is “an exercise in acknowledging one’s contradictions and a starting point for a more truthful chapter.” The single and its music video are now available on digital platforms, laying the foundation for a narrative that will unfold chapter by chapter.

The R01 Universe Unfolds

With R01, Roi creates a transmedia ecosystem in which each track emerges from the collaboration between Roi and his alter ego. The project includes dedicated R01 social profiles and platforms, allowing fans to engage closely with the evolving universe. It’s a creative space where retro and contemporary elements, intimacy and expansiveness, coexist, and where the community can participate as new “editions” of the figurine and new songs are revealed.

To launch the era, Roi has produced a limited physical run of the R01 ‘Perfecto Desastre’ figurine: 10 unique 3D-printed pieces created in collaboration with the NGO Ayúdame3D, which designs and provides prosthetics and assistive devices free of charge to people with disabilities.
